“Houston, We Have A Problem”
At time of press, flood water in Texas is still rising as Harvey continues to batter the area for a fifth day. Over the past four days, more than a trillion gallons of rain have fallen in Harris County alone — enough to run Niagara Falls for 15 days.. Before Harvey, the biggest recorded rainstorm in the continental U.S. had been Tropical Storm Amelia in 1978. Harvey has been recorded at 51.88 inches today and is expected to rise over the next few days as it moves southeast toward Louisiana.
Due to the devastating humanitarian crisis over the last few days in the Houston and surrounding coastal areas of Texas caused by Hurricane Harvey, Habitat for Humanity Texas has decided, for the first time, that it will now accept Ether as a form of donation, that will go to help rebuild and restore the communities in Harvey’s wake.
@HabitatTexas tweeted their announcement Sunday evening with a link to their donation site eth4harvey.com, which then gives contributors the Ethereum address to send donations too. 100% of the ETH donated will go directly to Habitat for Humanity Texas to help fund long-term disaster relief to those in Houston and the surrounding areas.
Unlike other support agencies who are there for only a few hours after a disaster occurs, Habitat for Humanity is on the ground for weeks or months after the disaster providing relief and which will take months if not years to rebuild.
Habitat for Humanity encourages anyone with the ability to, please contribute either Ether or USD to help everyone affected by Hurricane Harvey. To donate USD visit the Habitat for Humanity website or, to donate Ether, visit ETH4Harvey.com.
The ETH4Harvey Campaign will go from Aug. 26th – Sept. 25th.
